Banksy unveiled a new artwork dedicated to the recent events that took place in the United States, following the murder case of George Floyd and the protests that are still going on all over the world. While at Palazzo dei Diamanti (Ferrara) they’re currently holding a retrospective of its work An artist called Bansky (until September 27th) which showcase 130 artworks created by the mysterious street artist. A few weeks after his latest pieces inspired by the Covid-19 emergency, an ironic interpretation of the lockdown and a homage to all the staff that his fighting against the pandemic, Bansky published on his Instagram account his latest artwork: under the United States flag that his about to catch fire, there is a mirror with a black figure and a candle next to it.
The street artist posted three different pictures of his piece: the first one shows a detail, where we can see a dark figure without a face; the second one shows the full artwork that has a candle next to it which flame is about to burn the United States flag that surrounds the scene, which looks like a memorial altar; the third picture contains what it looks like the opinion of the artist on what happened to Floyd and the protests.
“People of colour are being failed by the system. The white system. Like a broken pipe flooding the apartment of the people living downstairs. This faulty system is making their life a misery, but it’s not their job to fix it. They can’t – no-one will let them in the apartment upstairs. This is a white problem and if white people don’t fix it, someone will have to come upstairs and kick the door in.“
