SANT AMBROEUS: MILAN’S CUISINE IN NEW YORK

Sant Ambroeus‘s story started in 1936 when two two pastry chefs joined forces and opened a café just a few steps away from Teatro La Scala, the legendary opera house in Milan, inspired by the story of the fourth century’s Saint Ambrogio. The cafè quickly became the meeting place for the local intelligentsia and on the second half of the 20th century saw the brand both flourish at home, and expand across the Atlantic. In 1982, the first Manhattan location of Sant Ambroeus arrived on Madison Avenue, opening its doors to a new crop of locals and international visitors. Today, New York diners can choose between five locations in Manhattan—in thriving neighborhoods like the West Village, Soho, and the Upper East Side—as well as an outpost in the seaside community of Southampton.

In the fall of 2016, Sant Ambroeus Palm Beach opened its doors to a new community, bringing a touch of old-world Milan—via contemporary Manhattan—to sunny Florida.

Sant Ambroeus has remained true to their Milanese origins as well as the flavours, atmosphere, and standout service of their first location. Each outpost boasts a unique character and design: a nod to ’60s and ’70s Italy here, Etro textiles or Le Corbusier prints there, with perhaps an oversized Clifford Ross photo adding contrast in minimalism. Quality, craftsmanship, and the feeling of being among friends are the heart and soul of the restaurant. An amazing Milanese menu is curated by the chef Marco Barbisotti, which reflects the culinary vision of the Sant Ambroeus brand and their roots, including a classic vitello tonnato, cotoletta alla Milanese or tasty risotti.

They also offer a wide selection of Italian wines, curated by the sommelier Jacopo Giustiniani. The bar is open all day, from delicate to bold options, and for all the coffee lovers, Sant Ambroeus has their high-quality mix that can be accompanied by croissant, ice cream, cake or cookies.
