These past few days you probably noticed many black and white shots with the hashtag #WomenSupportingWomen. The challenge started in the United States now involves more than 7 million women that decided to share a positive message of female solidarity. Many celebrities joined the challenge like Charlize Theron, Eva LongoriaJennifer Aniston, Katie HolmesKhloe Kardashian, Victoria Beckham, JLo and Reese Witherspoon. In Italy, the first women to be nominated were Levante and Chiara Ferragniwhich wrote: “We rise by lifting others. I always love a challenge when I can support other women I admire”.

If you want to join is easy, you just have to post a black and white portrait of yourself, nominate other women that we admire and love, and don’t forget to use the hashtags #WomenSupportingWomen#ChallengeAccepted and #blackandwhitechallenge.

How everything started is unclear, but there are three hypotheses. Some people say that is thanks to the Brazilian journalist Ana Paula Padrão that shared the first picture with the hashtag #WomenSupportingWomen, while other says that this is a way to sensibilize the public opinion on the increase of femicides in Turkey. According to The New York Times and the PR manager Cristine Abram, the trend connects to the viral speech made by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez which answered to the offences received by Ted Yoho.

Many are the challenges that women have to face every day, from sexual harassment to boy shaming, and maybe this trend will not resolve anything, but seeing a positive chain for once makes us hope for a better future.
