What do Lindsay Lohan, Demi Moore, Carla Bruni, Jennifer Aniston, Hugh Jackman, Mark Wahlberg, Daniel Craig, Demi Lovato, Yoko Ono and Jessica Alba have in common? They all are cryotherapy addicted. If you have never heard about it, get ready, because it’s coming: it is a beauty treatment based on cold and it’s the new must as regards wellness. Just consider that the hashtag #cryotherapy at the moment offers 30 thousand posts of users who tried it. Lately, it’s getting very popular in Italy too: Gianluca Vacchi locks himself inside a cryo-sauna for six minutes every morning; Donatella Versace had a black and gold cryosauna built for her. And the good news, at least for me, is that Cryofit has just opened in Rome, the first center specialized in cryotherapy 100% made in Italy. Why try it? The answer will leave you flabbergasted /but not as much as the visible effects): cryotherapy has a real anti-age effect because it immediately improves the quality of our skin, making it more elastic. Moreover, low temperatures fight cellulite and burn calories. Also, a program lasting a couple of weeks can get you one size less. How it works: the treatment can be total body or local. In the first case, the situation is almost sci-fi: you will dive into liquid nitrogen from your shoulder down to your feet inside a metallic cylinder where the temperature goes from -130° to -170°. This will last from 120 to 180 seconds; after that come stationary bike to reactivate your circulation. Otherwise, the local treatment allows you to treat some particular zones of your body, based on your needs. The staff of this center is extremely prepared and will give you the right suggestions. I guess that now you’re wondering what it feels like to dive into liquid nitrogen at -170 degrees. In the first second, it burns, the second one you start laughing hysterically, the third one you’re talking to your self; the fourth one it feels like you have drunk absinthe. The last 176 seconds will be spent wondering: why is it so unpleasantly pleasant?
