To celebrate the arrival of the Netflix series on the life of Roy Halston Frowick, the eponymous luxury brand has joined forces with the streaming giant to create a limited edition collection. It was created by costume designer Jeriana San Juan and brand chief creative officer Robert Rodriguez. It is an extraordinary event. It is the first clothing collection, and in this case fashion, in which Netflix has actively acted in terms of design.
Inspired by the looks seen in the series, the Halston x Netflix collection will consist of ten eveningwear pieces available for pre-order from June 7 only on the brands. Subsequently, from June 21, it will arrive on Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. The prices of Halston’s clothes inspired by the master’s work (who passed away in 1990) range from $ 300 to $ 1500.
Rodriguez said this is a way to return the Halston brand to its former glory. When going to Studio 54 in a suit signed by him represented a valid social consecration. It is a way to rekindle the spotlight once again on a man who changed New York fashion between 1970 and 1980. He gave birth to a new idea of a sophisticated but, at the same time over the top woman.
An unusual collaboration given the portrait of the protagonist that is anything but positive made by the series. Halston was a complex character to manage, so the designers openly took sides against him. But given the enormous visibility encountered at launch, Netflix has carried the ball. Visibility can only be helpful for a brand that has had difficulty in emerging from the crowd in recent years. It has also often carried out risky ideas, such as entrusting the brand’s reins to Sarah Jessica Parker.
