This is me, without filters, for the first time“. This is how the ex-First Lady  Michelle Obama introduces Becoming, the documentary directed by the filmmaker Nadia Hallgren, and now available for streaming on Netflix. The documentary follows the tour (around 34 cities) that Michelle Obama did for the launch of her autobiography.

“Becoming”, the memoir, was published in November 2018 and tells the story of Michelle’s life, from her childhood until her the end of her life at the White House. “During those months that I spent travelling, meeting and getting in contact with people from cities all over the world demonstrates that what we share is deep and real“, writes Michelle in a statement, adding that the tour now has even a more important meaning after the diffusion of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the documentary, appears next to Michelle, the Ex-President of the United States Barack Obama, her mother Marian Robinson, her brother Craig Robinson and of course, her two daughters, Malia and Sasha. Without filters, the film retraces the steps of her life, like the couple therapy that she and Barack had to go through for saving their marriage, the miscarriage and the in vitro fertilization that helped her conceiving her daughters. Of course, Michelle talks about her career and the first time she met Barack, that happened in a legal firm in Chicago where she was an intern.

Becoming is the third biggest production created thanks to the collaboration between Netflix and Higher Ground, and we’re sure it will be a success.
