The official announcement dates back to last June, and since then the excitement about this collaboration has kept growing: we are talking about Markerad, the collection created by Ikea x Off-White, brand by Virgil Abloh, who is also the creative director of our beloved Louis Vuitton menswear.
Curiosity and hype about this partnership cannot decrease, also due to an accurate campaign: from time to time we happened to see some prototype appearing on social networks. First, the mythical Frakta bag in caramel, that seems to be inspired by the Ikea packaging, then carpets with lettering (saying things like “Blue”, “Wet grass”, “Keep off”), created to become art pieces to be hanged to the wall as mush as useful items.
And finally some of the big pieces: a chair inspired by a model designed in the 50’s by Paul McCobb for his series Planner Group. And then a table, a chaise longue, several shelves, a marvelous coffee table. And also bags, pillows, clocks, doorstops, paintings, chairs, mirrors, tables and sofas. Sadly, for the release we will have to wait until 2020.
But we already know that the collection will respect Ikea’s pricing, as it was created for millennials who are building their first home. As Virgil Abloh said the idea is to “help the youth to build their own vision and cultivate their personal aesthetic while choosing how to furnish their house”.
