Nike boxes can have a second life: The young Korean artist Gyuhan Lee creates upcycling works by recycling the sneakers boxes and transforming them into real furnishing items. How? Using the very nature of the box material and the printed written motif, which Lee later assembles and strengthens the internal part with a metal structure allowing the object to be used.

Lee, a recent graduate of Kaywon University of Art & Design in South Korea, brought his project to life during a university’s furniture design course. “Before making a life-size piece of furniture in class, I practiced at home by making a corrugated cardboard miniature. During this process, I noticed that the corrugated cardboard was easily consumed and was not suitable, so looking in my room for a replacement material, I saw some unused Nike shoe boxes in a corner. That’s how I got the idea. From that moment on, I went from miniatures made for mere academic exercise to a real project which is also my current work ».
