In the history of the United States of America, few presidents, like Barack Obama, have been able to reconcile their work duties with less formal contexts such as that of sport. As a basketball lover, in 2009, Nike gave the former President a unique model, the Hyperdunk PE. Remarkable as the sportswear brand has exclusively made two pairs. And now the second sneaker made could become yours thanks to the Sotheby’s auction. The sneaker will be sold through the new platform of the auction house “The Sneaker Shop”, created specifically to sell sneakers and other street items.

Launched in 2008, Hypedunk became famous thanks to Kobe Bryant. The same year Nike launched a colorway renamed United We Rise dedicated to the Beijing Summer Olympics and worn by the American basketball team. The shoe’s design harks back to the American flag, with red and navy blue accents on the heel and midsole. All resting on a white base made of mesh, leather, and translucent synthetic material.

What makes this sneaker unique are the details that recall the strong American patriotism. In the version created for Barack Obama, the Nike branding on the tongue has been removed to make room for the presidential seal, the Presidential Seal. The number “44 “is embroidered on the shoe’s front (Obama was the 44th president of the USA). The last detail is present in the insole, where we find printed the year of the United States’ foundation, 1776, accompanied by the graphics of an eagle. The size auctioned will be a 12.5 US in perfect condition.

The sneaker will be available starting February 12 with the Buy Now option for 25 thousand dollars. It will be the first significant release launched online by Sotheby’s. The Nike Hypedunks will be released on President’s Day Weekend at 4:44 p.m. in honor of the 44th President of the United States.
