The designer David Renne did not have time to show us his next projects at the creative direction of Moschino, whose sudden death at the age of 46 sparked immense sorrow in the world of fashion and immediately on social media. The news of the death of the well-known designer on Friday afternoon due to a “sudden illness” was spread by a press release from Moschino’s parent company, Aeffe.
“There are no words to describe the pain we are experiencing at this dramatic time. Davide joined us only a few days ago when a sudden illness took him from us too soon. We still can’t believe what happened,” explained Massimo Ferretti, chairman of Aeffe SpA.
“With Davide, we were working on an ambitious project, in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and optimism for the future. Even though he was only with us for a very short time, Davide was able to immediately make himself loved and respected. Today we are left with the responsibility of carrying on what his imagination and creativity had only envisioned. Our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends,” he added.
In March, the brand’s previous creative director, Jeremy Scott, announced that he would be stepping down from the position after 10 incredible years at the helm of Moschino. Since then, all eyes have been on the brand and the arrival of a worthy successor and it was recently announced that Renne would be taking over.
After two decades of designing womenswear at Gucci, Renne would take on the role of Creative Director at Moschino on November 1, 2023, with his first collection slated to debut for Fall/Winter 2024 during Milan Fashion Week next year.
Following the painful news, no mention was rightly made about the fate of the brand. It is not yet clear who will take the helm of Moschino or whether the brand will consider taking a short break to look for possible new leadership.
