The news has been published just less than a week ago on the official pages of the Kering Group and the Maison itself. The coveted but also feared position left vacant for a few months has finally been reassigned and it is now time for Gucci to reopen a new chapter in its managerial and creative history.
There are certainly many expectations for the new figure chosen as creative director of the brand. Kering Group President and CEO François-Henri Pinault recently stated that De Sarno will be in charge to influence fashion and culture through highly desirable products that will bring a singular and contemporary perspective to modern luxury.
“I am delighted that Sabato is joining Gucci as the new creative director of the house. Having worked with some of the most renowned Italian fashion houses, Sabato brings with him vast and relevant experience. I am confident that, with his deep understanding and appreciation of Gucci’s unique heritage, he will lead our creative teams with a distinctive vision that will help strengthen the house’s authority in fashion by capitalizing on its rich heritage.” Said Marco Bizzarri, President and CEO of Gucci who decided to entrust the creative reins of the Florentine brand to the newcomer, after the unexpected farewell of Alessandro Michele in November 2022.
Many expected a successor with an already known name, but as happened previously in the Gucci company, the choice fell on a new, young name, known and appreciated mostly by insiders.

Born and raised in Naples, Sabato De Sarno began his career at Prada in 2005, then moving on to Dolce & Gabbana and subsequently arriving at Valentino in 2009, where he held positions of increasing responsibility, up to his appointment as fashion director, with the task of supervising the men’s and women’s collections.
“I am deeply honored to take on the role of creative director of Gucci. I am proud to be part of a Maison with an extraordinary history and heritage, which over the years has been able to embrace and preserve values in which I believe. I am excited and excited to contribute to the brand through my creative vision,” De Sarno said in a statement.
The designer will lead the maison’s style office, reporting to Marco Bizzarri, and will therefore be responsible for the women’s, men’s, leather goods, accessories and lifestyle collections.
We are therefore eagerly awaiting the first debut of De Sarno’s work for Gucci which presumably will be when he will presents his first collection at the Milan Women’s Fashion Week, in September 2023.
