The virtual ecosystem created by Facebook is ready to take a sci-fi quantum leap. Mark Zuckerberg announces it. With a lecture, a long letter, and an hour and a half long film, he explained his vision of his future. Here is everything you need to know about Meta.
Let’s start with the name. Meta is a name that wants to “reflect who we are and what we hope to build“. That is the metaverse, a digital world that will unify the experiences of all existing social media. These will then be placed in a three-dimensional virtual space or projected onto the physical world. In the words of Zuckerberg himself, the metaverse will be “an embodied internet in which the user will be present and not an observer. He will be able to do almost anything he can imagine: being together with friends and family, working, learning, playing, buying, creating. As well as experimenting with entirely new things that don’t fit how we think of computers or phones today. “
Within the metaverse, the user’s POV and, therefore the focus of the entire experience will be the avatars, whose appearance can be controlled in every detail. It will create perhaps the most extensive scope for digital fashion to date. From this point of view, fashion could find a new Eldorado in Meta. Imagine being in Meta and buying a digitally created high fashion bag. You could use it only in Meta, of course, without the risk of wearing it out, dirtying it, or (theoretically) suffering theft. But there is so much more. An accessory or a garment purchased in META will have the same value – or perhaps even higher – of the natural equivalent with all its characteristics. Including the revaluation over time.
But how will Meta work? For now, the metaverse is a second line of reality in which one will project oneself with one’s identity. On this, Zuckerberg was very clear: the privacy and security rules will be Meta’s priority. Let’s imagine, fake profiles and alterations of one’s reality will be instantly banned. Meta will not be a way out of one’s life to create another, but a new world to explore. Another planet, just placed in the net instead of deep space.
