The United States is ready to say goodbye to TikTok. Donald Trump confirmed that he’s serious about banning the most popular app at the moment, that in February reached a billion users all over the world. “TikTok is a source of worries for our national security, we will ban it in the United States. I have the power to do it so I will,” said the President of The United States. In the next few days, he will release a decree that imposes to Google and Apple to delete the apps on the Android and iOS store. But why is it considered a threat to the USA’s national security? The USA government thinks is a tool for the Chinese secret services to control and leak information, throughout an algorithm that tracks all the data, preferences and tastes of the users. The app was created and owned by a Chinese group, ByteDance, but is based in the United States. The company keep repeating that they’re not in any way connected with the Chinese government and even the CEO of the company is American, Kevin Mayer. The group was also more than available in letting the Americans control the algorithm, but Trump seems determined.
Now that Trump seems to be ready to put TikTok on his blacklist, just like it happened for Huawei, how this will affect the market? Many “tiktoker”, that became famous thanks to the app, already moved on another similar app, Triller, and Mark Zuckerberg is working on a new Instagram update that will debut Reels. It’s a similar mechanism to TikTok but implemented on Instagram. and he’s even ready to spend millions of dollars to “steal” some of the most followed TikTokers.
Noah Beck and Josh Richards, two of the most popular TikTokers on the app shared their goodbye messages, like Noah Beck and Josh Richards. Tony Lopez launched the hashtag #FreeTikTok; Mattia Polibio: “It seems that we have to say goodbye. Thank you, I love you”; Bryce Hall: “Follow us on Youtube and Instagram for new contents” while Chase Hudson promised that even if this is the end of TikTok, it’s not the end of the Hype House. Still no comments from Charli and Dixie D’Amelio.
