Do you know that on Instagram there is a beauty account hated by everyone? The make-up artist Eszter Magyar managed to win this title, as she only publishes extreme creations, defined by herself. There is a picture of a cornea completely covered by a neon yellow liquid, another one with eyelashes that drips glitter gel, then teeth covered in coloured acrylics and nails dipped in nail polish. In one of the post, the model has “I hope you will go blind” written with eye-linear. So, it’s quite difficult to like at it.
Eszter calls her make-up style brutalist. And she’s right. “I’m obsessed with ugly aesthetic, both in architecture and photography,” says the make-up artist, born in Budapest and now based in Berlin. She describes her style as “controversial, conceptual and raw” and gets her inspiration from a futuristic aesthetic, that influence her beauty looks. “People consider brutalism ugly, but this is because they don’t understand the process behind the concept. When for me, that’s where I find a connection with my work. I work against these values. Our society is obsessed with perfect and eternal beauty, with my art I go into the opposite direction”.
For sure, this is not the right beauty account if you’re looking for inspiration for a smokey eye or a glamourous look, like the one owned by Nikki Wolff, the make-up artist of the celebrities. But if fashion is changing, why beauty needs to stay the same?
