Since Run-DMC certified adidas Superstar as a hip-hop point of reference with 1986’s “My adidas”, the Queens-born rap group and the history of the German footwear brand have been permanently intertwined. Over the past few years the duo has worked on several special capsules, and now in 2020 they celebrate their history and the 50th anniversary of the Superstar with a special set of retro-inspired sneakers and clothing.
Accompanied by a touching lookbook shot in front of a Jam Master Jay’s mural in the Hollis group’s hometown, Queens, the key pieces of the collection are the two Superstars: in black & white and vice versa.
Although the foundations of the Superstar remained, the tones are completely new thanks to the Run-DMC branding on the midfoot, tongue and insole.
The white pair adds a hint of red on the heel tab, while the black pair pays tribute to the late Jam Master Jay by placing his portrait on the tongue. In actual “Run-DMC fashion”, each pair is untied and is accompanied by a series of chunky laces for the classic 80s hip-hop style.
As for clothing, the capsule includes a satin college jacket inspired by the iconic adidas Originals garments, an exclusive re-edition by Sneakersnstuff of the memorable “Kings from Queens” crewneck, two fleece hoodies and three T-shirts.
The Run-DMC x adidas Originals collection will be released via the adidas CONFIRMED app on November 14th. Prices range from $ 35 to $ 120.
