Nike is expanding on its projects of eco-sustainability. Here comes the first ball designed and built by safeguarding the environment and encouraging recycling waste materials. The design of the brand in Beaverton is called “Next Nature “Football”.
The coating of the ball is built with scraps the airbag exploded and recycled. Pretty much a mix of plastic materials, of course, designed to contain compressed air. The interior of the balloon, in addition to the element of air, we find the padding made with yarn recovered from landfill and materials recovery of the same brand.
Nike specifies that the ball will not be available in the market for the moment, but it is “a manifestation of our commitment to the re-use of waste“. Designed thinking about the good of our planet, the Next Nature, Football is a proof-of-concept that implements and encourages athletes to take the issue of environmental change seriously and recycle as much as possible to reduce man’s impact on nature. The project is part of the macro category of “Move to Zero” launched by Nike in the past few months to reduce to zero the incidence of production of any material with the Swoosh.
Recently, at the beginning of April, Nike has given life to a more eco-friendly project. It’s called the Nike Refurbished and is a project that aims to provide a new life to shoes that are not used or slightly defective. How does it work? After that is done the return of a shoe, within the 60 days provided for by Nike’s policy, the company in charge of the product by placing it inside the program. Each pair is carefully analyzed and then evaluated to understand that the changes to use. Once the shoes are returned as new, ready to go back on the store shelves, the sneakers will have a lower price than the original, while the packaging will indicate the origin and degree of the initial assessment.
