Between driving his 1017 ALYX 9SM line and Givenchy’s menswear, Matthew M Williams is a busy man, but he also has time for exciting collaborations in the footwear industry. The last one? the Zoom MMW 4 in collaboration with Nike. Presented for the first time at Swoosh’s Future Sport Forum in February, the Zoom MMW 4 offers a futuristic and high-tech look, a continuous evolution of the technical styles of Williams’ past, such as the Free TR 3 SP sneakers.
Dressed in an off-white colorway with black accents, the Zoom MMW 4’s upper is constructed with multiple links and held together by fused seams. The details are defined by a circular overlay in chrome silver on the medial part of the central foot, partially covering the printed black Swoosh. Further details are the subtle black laces, black collar trims and a larger Swoosh on the lateral midfoot. Williams’ name, MMW, is positioned above the toe, insole and heel. Although the materials are “modern”, the upper of the sneakers exudes an aspect reminiscent of Nike conceptual designs of the 2000s, for a touch of futuristic retro style.
The Matthew M Williams x Nike Zoom MMW 4 will likely be released in late 2020 or early 2021, although confirmation from Nike has not arrived yet.
