During the lockdown Marc Jacobs kept us company by posting positive messages and original outfit photos on Instagram, documenting his time at the Mercer Hotel, in New York, where he temporarily moved in with his husband Nick Newbold, at the beginning of the pandemic.

However, those extravagant outfits were not only destined to fill his Instagram page but transformed the designer for a short documentary film recently posted on Youtube. The short, entitled “A New York Story”, shares the behind the scenes of Marc Jacobs’ lockdown from the beginning until the end. In this One Man Show, the designer interprets himself and many secondary roles: the concierge, the barman, the chef, the bellboy, the bouncer and even the air conditioning technician. What was happening inside Marc Jacobs’ room is alternated with outdoor shots of the empty city, which remind us of the most difficult period of the lockdown: from tearful scenes of his loneliness to moments of joy with his dogs and his husband.

The finale of the documentary sees Marc Jacobs reach the hotel exit, for the first time with the other guests, symbolizing the end of the lockdown and the return to his life. The credits end with a declaration of love from the designer to the city: “I LOVE YOU NEW YORK, IN SICKNESS AND IN HEALTH”.
