During Apple’s Unleashed event on Monday, the tech giant officially unveiled its third generation of AirPods.
The design has remained the same tested since 2016 with some finishes, the addition of resistance against water (they are IPX4 certified), and support for Dolby Atmos with dynamic head position detection.
The listening device provides a three-dimensional immersive listening experience for both music and video with surround sound. Combining the power of the H1 chip with a new sound system, the new AirPods use computational audio to produce high-quality sound with Adaptive EQ.
According to Apple, the design is sweat and water-resistant and can deliver the sound “directly to the ears” without distortion. The battery life of the third generation AirPods has increased to six hours, and only five minutes of charge will be enough to give users an extra listening hour. The case itself can also support four full refills.
Furthermore, the new AirPods come with improved quality for FaceTime calls and the ability to announce notifications via Siri. The third-generation AirPods are available today for $179 on Apple’s website. The device will be available in stores starting Tuesday, October 26.
