Kristen Steward will play Lady Diana in the new film Spencer directed by the Pablo Larraín. The production will start at the beginning of 2021.
The film, written by Steven Knight, will focus on the crucial days for Lady D’s life, during the Christmas holiday of the early 90s in the Sandringham’s house (Norfolk) of the Windsor family. During those three days, the Princess of Wales decided that her marriage with Charles was over and it was time to think about her future. “My generation grows up with a pretty clear vision of how fairytales are supposed to go,” explained the Director. “Usually, the prince found his princess that becomes his wife and then queen. But when the princess decided that she doesn’t want to be queen, but just be herself, the fairytale ends. I always thought that it was a hard decision to take. This will be at the core of my film”. Larraín already dedicated another film to an iconic female figure, Jacqueline Kennedy -Onassis known as Jackie, in 2016 which role was played by Natalie Portman. Even here the director decided to focus on a difficult time for the First Lady, the murder of her husband, the President of the United States John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
Kristen Stewart, 30 years old, known for her role as Bella in the Twilight saga, is now considered one of the most interesting actresses of her generation. Last year, Stewart starred in the biopic Seberg.
