The rapper Kanye West donated 2 million dollars to George Floyd’s daughter, and the families of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor. His attorneys publically announced that the rapper felt this situation close to his heart and wanted to invest his funds to give Gianna, Floyd0s daughter, the chance to go to college. Kanye has always been socially and politically active.
In the last few days Kim Kardashian, Kanye West’s wife, offered to pay the medical expenses of a protestor that was hit by a rubber bullet. The wave of protests that are still taking place in the United States made possible not only the arrest of Derek Chauvin, the police officer that brutally killed Floyd that was captured on tape but also helped to raise the grade from third to second, and the arrest of the other agents that were in service with him.
In the United States, more than 10 thousand people were stopped and arrested during the protests, and according to a balance made by the Associated Press, more than 10 were killed. Only in Minneapolis, more than 220 buildings have been vandalized causing 55 million dollars worths of damage. The American Civil Liberties Union, one of the main American organizations for the defence of civil rights, and the Black Lives Matter movement announced that they will prosecute the president Donald Trump and the Minister of Justice William Barr for violating the constitutional rights of the protestors outside the White House, by using against them tear gas. As reported by the American media, the gas was used to remove the protestors from the streets so that Trump could stand in front of St. John’s church. As read on the ACLU website, the use of gas and rubber bullets “violate our constitutional rights”.
