The 80’s are back. Eventually, they always come back. Or maybe, more simply, they never leave. But why? Some say it’s because back then we were happy and, deep down, we had everything. We are talking about the years when the internet was about to break out, thus somehow the 80’s represent the childhood of the world as we now know it.
They have been years of excesses, hopes and nightmares. And all of these emotions found expression through fashion, creating an iconic language that has had no equals in any following era.
Therefore, here we go with the 80’s trends and with five pieces that you absolutely must have inside your wardrobe for next season. Let’s start with the basic rule: the 80’s are all about volumes, but never sacrificing your body shape: oversize jackets go with a leopard printed corset, large shoulders are matched with a super tight waist. The atmosphere is ambiguous, sensual, exaggerated. And the game gets always more serious. The first step to achieve all of that: bustier. You could go for faux leather with a more modern style, or choose an evergreen leopard printed corset by Dolce&Gabbana.
Must-have number 2: leggings (what a surprise), that in the 80’s we used to call fuseaux: for example this wonderful pair in metallic matte black by the even more wonderful brand America Apparel (a great reference for this 80’s trend). The same American brand leads me to the number 3 must-have: Bodysuit. If you don’t have one, say goodbye to the 80’s. I’m crazy about this iridescent one, again by American Apparel, but also consider this one with breathtaking cross V cleavage.
Try pairing it with must-have number 4: super high-waisted jeans, a bit folded on the ankle. Great. Finally, top of the top, for piece number 5 we need an oversized jacket, which is obviously our final must-have. Look what I found for you: faux fur in fire red by Asos, or blazer by Max Mara with padded shoulder in lamè silk. Finally, add a pair of high-heels and you’re definitely ready.
