“From the beginning, I knew I saw the world differently from everyone else. Some people didn’t like it. But I wasn’t for everyone! Perhaps they have always feared that I would become… crazy!“. And after these words, here’s the evil laugh in the first official Cruella teaser trailer. This is the new Disney film with an unprecedented Emma Stone in the role of Cruella De Mon, the treacherous character we met as children in the great classic One Hundred and One Dalmatians.
The new Disney live-action feature film (set to hit theaters next May) explores the genesis of one of Disney’s most famous antagonists ever. A rebellious and brilliant woman, as charming as she is evil. The film, directed by Craig Gillespie (who in 2017 directed I, Tonya played by Margot Robbie), is set in 1960s punk-rock London. The cast also includes Academy Award winner Emma Thompson, who is the Baroness, the director of a prestigious fashion house that pulls Cruella out of obscurity as an emerging designer.
One of a kind, Cruella is darkness and color, charm and cruelty. And the Oscar-winning actress Emma Stone fills the character created in 1956 by Dodie Smith with modernity. The original name of the book is Cruella de Vil and not The 101 Dalmatians. Traditionally, the classic black and white colors, such as Dalmatians, characterize Cruella’s outfits.
Mad and damned, a bit Joker (but Joaquin Phoenix’s version), the new Cruella in the teaser goes from an innocent white cape to a shocking red dress before wearing studded leather jackets on a motorcycle. While waiting to see her on the big screen, at the end of the trailer, she dismisses us these words: “I was born brilliant. I was born treacherous, and a little crazy. I’m Cruella“.
