The Milan and Paris fashion weeks, which recently concluded, were full of twists and important news announced by the most well-known brands.

Various designers have moved in and out of leadership roles, resulting in a bizarre sense of change across the entire luxury industry. Sarah Burton ended her iconic 26-year career at Alexander McQueen with a heartwarming farewell, Sabato De Sarno unveiled his first collection for Gucci and Stefano Gallici marked the start of his reign at Ann Demeulemeester.

Added to the news is also the appointment of designer Chemena Kamali as the new creative director of Chloé.

Born in Germany in 1981, Kamali obtained a Master of Arts in Fashion from Central Saint Martin’s in 2007. With over twenty years of experience, the designer had already intertwined her working career with Chloé, initially under the direction of Phoebe Philo and subsequently returning as Design Director for Clare Waight Keller, in 2013. More recently, from 2016 to present, she served as Director of women’s ready-to-wear design at Saint Laurent.

Kamali takes over from another big name in the fashion world, Gabriela Hearst who officially said goodbye to Chloé by presenting her latest collection for the Spring/Summer 2024 season on September 28th.

Hearst most recently lent her skills to Angelina Jolie for the launch of her new brand under the banner of slow fashion and craftsmanship, but her work in terms of sustainability has always characterized her role at Chloè and the successes that the brand has achieved since its arrival in 2021.

Under the designer’s leadership, Chloé achieved B Corp status in the first year of her appointment, demonstrating the fashion brand’s commitment to performance and business practices driven by transparency and accountability.

Now to carry on her legacy will be the equally talented Kamali who shared her relationship with the brand in a statement: “My heart has always been Chloé’s. It has been since I stepped through its doors more than 20 years ago. Returning feels natural and very personal. I am extremely honored to be taking on this role and to be building on the vision that Gaby Aghion and Karl Lagerfeld defined early in the Maison’s history. I hope to capture the emotional connection and spirit of Chloé for today. I am very grateful to Riccardo Bellini, Philippe Fortunato and Johann Rupert for this opportunity and their trust.”
