Assunta Madre is an emblem of the city of Rome. The owner Gianni (alias Johnny) Micalusi, attract every night, 365 days a year, a huge crowd to his fish restaurant, located in a historic and important street in the centre of the capital inside Palazzo Varese (built-in 1600). Assunta Madre is an excellence in the panorama of the Italian restaurant tradition, thanks to their food and hospitality. The name “Assunta Madre” evokes the use of sailors to dedicate their boats to Our Lady and Micalusi’s attachment to his family and the sea-side town of Terracina, where he was born.
The strength of Assunta Madre is the fresh fish counter that offers a wide range of options that changes each day. Every morning the staff of Assunta Madre goes to the seaside in search of the best fish that will be cooked in the evening. Since 2019 a new season for the restaurant has opened, in partnership with Chef Franco Bloisi, that only uses very fresh fish, caught the night before, and enhanced it in an exclusive menu that includes appetizers and fish parmigiana.
Assunta Madre is loved by celebrities: you could sit next to the table of big names of the star system, from footballers to politicians, from the protagonists of Italian tabloids to Hollywood stars. Their photos next to Johnny, stand out in the entrance to the restaurant.
Today Assunta Madre has two other locations, in Milan and Porto Cervo.
