Nike launches its new sneakers Space Hippie, in four different styles for summer 2020, created with the most innovative technologies in sustainable design with a bold aesthetic inspired by space explorations. Behind the presentation of one of the most important Nike project of the season is Noah Murphy-Reinhertz, Sustainable Design Lead of Nike. He talked about the commitment of the company in making its production more sustainable than ever and how they were able to create such revolutionary sneakers: “What guided us for the look of the Space Hippie and inspired the project, was the idea of founding ourselves on another planet and use only what was available there and improvise with new technologies”. Also, Nike tried to significantly reduce the carbonic emissions during every step of the production.
Two things set the Space Hippie apart: first of all a technology that Nike has been used for a while now, the Flyknit, that creates a shoe with almost any waste, by only weaving the exact shape. Then they used any waste of ZoomX from the Vaporfly sneakers.
Another news is how the shoes will be transported. Aware that the Nike sneakers are sold throughout different online shops, the company created a box that could be shipped without any additional packaging. Lastly, but not less important, is the color. The grey was obtained thanks to the recycled T-shirts, materials and plastic bottles, without any added tints.
The Nike Space Hippie will be available from June 11th 2020, in the meantime, starting from today 29th of May, you can buy the new Nike Air Max 270 “Cactus Trails” designed by Travis Scott.
