Alessandro Michele, the Creative Director of Gucci, is known for his radical approach to fashion design. After presenting his Autumn/Winter 2021 DIY campaign, he published on Instagram a statement expressing Gucci’s new approach to seasonal fashion shows. He stated that the Italian brand will only showcase two collections per year, through a series of posts which he entitled Appunti nel Silenzio. He said: “In the future I will distance myself from the tiring rhythm of seasonal shows, to take over a new time-space closer to my expressive needs. We will only meet twice a year to share chapters of this new story. It will be characterised by irregular, impertinent and free chapters. They will be written by mixing rules and genders. They will feed off new spaces, codes and platforms“.
A decision made previously by the designer Giorgio Armani, who decided not to take part in Milan’s Digital Fashion Week happening in July, but rather to showcase the collections following their own calendar. Armani’s words reminded the ones of the letter written by the designer Dries Van Noten from Belgium, and signed by 40 colleges of his.
Finally, Pierpaolo Piccioli announced that Valentino will also not show a collection at the Paris’s Digital Fashion Week happening in July, in order to showcase the Menswear and Womenswear collections in September.
The world, our choices and decisions have changed after the pandemic, the Fashion World understands it and acts adequately.
