The battle with cut and sew is about to begin and the challengers on the field are two heavyweights: Amazon Prime Video and Netflix.
The two giants of digital entertainment have in fact announced (almost simultaneously) the launch of a reality show dedicated to the world of fashion in which competitors will have to try their hand at a series of tests in which they will have to demonstrate their technical and manual skills on the subject.
At stake is the possibility of launching their own fashion collection and a visibility that only two giants such as Amazon and Netflix could offer. Add to this the prestigious collaborations in the fashion sector signed for the occasion: the collections signed by the winners will in fact be able to count on the power of the distribution channels offered by their respective commercial partners: Net-a-porter and Amazon Fashion.
The formats are very similar to each other and the target audience is definitely the same. While waiting to see how this battle will end, let’s find out some more details.
Making the Cut. The series will premiere on March 27 on Amazon Prime Video. The show will be presented by Heidi Klum, former Project Runway host, and Tim Gunn, mentor and producer within the same program. The cast will consist of 12 competitors who will be evaluated by a jury that will alternate during the episodes with a series of illustrious names in the fashion field. Among the judges already disclosed are prominent names such as Naomi Campbell, Carine Roitfield, Joseph Altuzarra and, invariably, the most influential Italian influencer of the moment: Chiara Ferragni.
The winner will receive a substantial $ 1 million prize to be used to launch their collection and, above all, the opportunity to sell it worldwide through Amazon Fashion’s powerful distribution channels.
Next in Fashion. Coming soon on January 29th on Netflix. The conduction will be entrusted to Tan France, established designer and former conductor of Queer Eye, another well-known program dedicated to the world of fashion broadcast at the beginning of 2018, always on Netflix. He will be joined by the British influencer and designer with over 3 million followers, Alexa Chung.
The cast will consist of 18 emerging talents with small collaborations with some established brands that will compete for the $ 250,000 to be invested in their collection. In this case too, the partners involved are first-rate, starting with the Net-a-porter luxury shopping site which will make its distribution channels available to the lucky winner who will emerge at the end of the 10 episodes.
Also in this case the jury will be composed of experts from the sector who will take turns during the episodes. The complete list has not yet been disclosed but, judging by the names put in place for the moment, it will be leading figures in the world of fashion, starting with the global purchasing director for Net-a-porter, Elizabeth von der Goltz, instagram’s fashion director, Eva Chen, and Holliwood’s star designer, Elizabeth Stewart.
