During these hard times for the fashion industry, Pierpaolo Piccioli, Creative Director of Valentino, tried to find a connection between the digital and the human world. For the Valentino Haute Couture Autumn/Winter 2020/21 collection, the designer hosted a digital performance in Rome (Cinecittà) starring the top model Maria Carla Boscono. Directed by Nick Knight, Of Grace and Light explore this connection between the digital and the human dimension. “The tangible is morphed by the intangible,” Valentino described of the show in a press release. “A dream solidifies to turn immediately back into a dream: a possible one made real by the digital in dialogue with the human. Couture as an invite to dream with open eyes.”
Many were the looks presented. From wide puffed sleeves and crinolines to a top with an intricated embroidery worn by Maria Carla Boscono. But the true magic happened with the beautiful creations suspended in the air, that looked like birds ready to fly. While the long trains in soft fabrics reminded us of Greek goddesses.
