The world of fashion, as we know, is constantly changing. The latest and umpteenth confirmation of its evolution is the announcement of the first AI Fashion Week, designed to showcase the latest advances in artificial intelligence and its interaction with fashion. The event aims to promote AI as a tool for fashion and to support and highlight emerging designers whose artistic work is in close contact with technology. It will therefore be an unusual fashion week, set up as a real fashion contest where the projects will be presented both online and in person, thus allowing the public to evaluate the collections.
The competition is open to all and will apparently be hosted by the city of New York, at the Soho spring studios.
Indeed, the production of the event was born from a partnership between the New York-based AI Studio Maison Meta and Revolve, with the intention of exploring and challenging the boundaries of what is possible in the fashion industry, encouraging designers to experiment new technologies and techniques. The fact that the collections will be judged by both a high-profile fashion jury and the community is one way to allow for a fair and objective selection process.

The top 10 finalists will then be judged by a panel of leading industry insiders and the three winners will receive support from AIFW’s fashion-tech incubator in partnership with Revolve. The virtual garments of the three winners will then be physically produced and sold by the Revolve group.
“It’s a new kind of designer,” Revolve CEO and co-founder Michael Mente said in an interview. “It’s not that the computer is designing and replacing jobs. It’s a different kind of creator using different kinds of technologies to create different kinds of output that can be physically produced. It’s a new perspective.”
The event has the main intention of providing a prestigious platform for designers to showcase their vision for the future of fashion and offer the public the opportunity to discover how the latest innovations in the field of tech can revolutionize the idea we have had so far of the fashion industry.

So what novelties could this AI fashion week 2023 reserve? The contest will showcase design projects created by some of the most innovative minds in the AI industry, from AI-generated apparel to virtual runway shows, in a blaze of hybridisation of technology and style.
Obviously, this is not only a great opportunity for designers and for the public of professionals and insiders an fan of the fashion sector. It will also be an occasion for sponsors and already well-known luxury brands to see the potential of artificial intelligence in fashion and to support and invest in the sector.
The event will take place in a few weeks. April 20 will be the opening day, with opening events dedicated to the media, VIPs and participating designers, while on April 21 the space will remain open to the public throughout the day.
