Hsu Hsiu-e (83 years old) and Chang Wan-ji, (84 years old) are the owners of the Wansho Laundry in central Taiwan. During the lockdown, their grandson, Reef Chang, talked them into dressing up in unclaimed clothes their customers had abandoned years ago. Now their Instagram account @WantShowAsYoung, became a huge hit and counts more than 500,000 followers. “Their business is not always busy. They would doze off in the shop and their spirits weren’t high. So I thought since our family has these clothes, I can remind people to pick up their clothes and remind my grandparents their life can still be great even in old age,” said ReeF Chang to BBC News. “I never would’ve thought at my age so many people would want to look at pictures of me,” echoed his grandma.
Wan-ji, started to work when he was only 14 years old to help his parents and said that people started to forget about their clothes in the past few years when shopping got way cheaper. The couple has donated hundreds of clothing items to charities for those who have suffered from natural disasters. But they still have so many pieces of clothing at their shop that have not been claimed. They are not looking to retire anytime soon and Reef is preparing to do a “winter season collection” next.
