The purpose of the Prada Group is to transform all its garments and accessories by the end of 2021 into ECONYL nylon.
A mission that began with the meeting between the brand and the Aquafil company that produces ECONYL a nylon thread made with plastic recovered from seas and oceans, textile fiber waste and old carpets recovered in landfills. This fabric can be recycled over and over without the material becoming worn or losing quality.

National Geographic has collaborated with Prada to produce a series of short films to describe the production and distribution processes of this project. The documentary entitled “What We Carry”  starts from Phoenix in Arizona, specifically from the most important plant of carpet recycling and shows us how this revolutionary process works. The short films continue the journey around the world to witness the functioning of this unique mechanism.

The first accessories made by Prada to inaugurate the Re-Nylon are six classic models of men’s and women’s bags created exclusively in regenerated nylon. Lorenzo Bertelli, head of marketing and communication of the Prada group, said that “The project reflects our constant commitment to sustainability, this collection will allow us to make a significant contribution and to create products without using new resources“. In fact, part of the proceeds from sales will be donated to projects for environmental sustainability.

Prada
together with UNESCO wants to promote educational activities aimed at young students from around the world concerning pollution, recycling and the circular economy. Learning and acting are the two words behind the project that will end with an awareness campaign by the students themselves.
The message of the new Prada line is addressed to each of us, every gesture has a consequence on the planet and we must ensure that this is positive.
