There is not only classic collecting. That of stamps (inherited from grandfather), porcelain, rare coins, or fine watches. The most hardcore collecting assigns value to objects that nobody expects to be exciting and, above all, that nobody expects to exist and have value.
We have already talked about Magic The Gathering playing cards as collectibles with an even exorbitant value, but everything seems pretty regular so far. We can imagine that fans worldwide compete to look for the rarest runs of cards appreciated by millions of people.
But some collections are not expected, and we are going to make a short, non-exhaustive list (it is impossible because, in the end, everything can be collected) :
- Human hair of historical figures – Yes, you understood correctly. Hair from historical figures is collected. John R., the owner of an antique dealer in the United States, has many human Hairs. He even entered the Guinness Book of Records. He owns Abraham Lincoln’s hair, J.P. Kennedy, Elvis Presley’s (sold for $ 15,000), and many more.
- Collection of metal tabs – The useless ones of the cans that we teased until we broke them by repeating the alphabet to find out who “was thinking about it.” Todd M., who started in 2012, has 22 million in his possession.
- Darth Vader – Bill Mc Bride collection in 20 years and spending the beauty of $ 250,000 managed to bring together the most extensive collection of one of the most iconic characters in the fantasy world of Star Wars. The beauty of 60,000 objects of any kind that refer to Darth Vader.
- Coca-Cola cans – I also did this as a child, and perhaps it was an Italian fashion because the record holder is, in fact, David Andreani of Pesaro, who managed to own at least one in the whole world if we exclude North Korea and Cuba.
- McDonald’s merchandising – Let’s face it, in this case, perhaps he has benefited because he owns one of the world chains. Mike Fountaine, 60, has a stunning collection of 75,000 pieces of assorted memorabilia. The collection occupies 4,500 square meters and includes 1,000 McDondal cups, uniforms, 11,700 pins, old monitors, and practically all the Happy Meal boxes produced to date.
We stopped here, but we could continue indefinitely. As a bonus, we add the collection of old telephone cards. We all, as kids, got it, and probably the youngest has never seen one.
What did you collect?
