It was one of the symbols of the 1980s, and every Christmas is one of the great films that TV offers us. But now he’s ready to return with a new sequel. We are talking about Prince Akeem, the heir to the throne of Zamunda, played by Eddie Murphy in the cult Coming to America. The sequel will be called Coming 2 America and will see Murphy himself starring again and this time almost ready to become king. Together with him, his best friend and confidant Semmi, to whom Arsenio Hall gives his face. The two will return to the first film’s locations, then to New York, moved by a surprising and sudden reason: he has a teenage son that he has never known.
In these hours the first official images have appeared on the net. One of them sees Murphy in new royal robes with his wife, another with friend Hall and some extras. Coming 2 America will be broadcast worldwide by Amazon Prime Video on March 5, 2020. The production of the film is entrusted to Paramount.
The other significant cast returns are James Earl Jones, Shari Headley, John Amos, and Louie Anderson. In particular, Earl Jones will still be the father king who, on the verge of death, expressly asks his son to find his lost nephew and raise him as the future heir of Zamunda. “The thing that pleases me most is to get back to working with the original cast,” Murphy said. “My favorite thing was to get all the members of my royal family together and make another movie as good as the first one.”
The original film that appeared in 1988 was very successful at the box office, both in the United States and worldwide. Still, plans for a continuation, even if planned, were postponed several times. Perhaps due to the ups and downs that Murphy’s career suffered at the time. Could it be the right time for the ransom for the king of Zamunda? And above all, the new sequel will have the same success and will be able to conquer us? We have to wait to see Coming 2 America.
