To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of its union with the art world, BMW will entrust international artist Jeff Koons with the customization for the M850ixDrive Gran Coupé model, which will have its world premiere at Frieze Los Angeles in February and at Rockefeller Plaza in New York from 1 to April 4, and then be sold at auction by Christie’s.
The MW Series 8 Gran Coupe will be released in a 99-exemplary edition at the cost of $ 350,000 each. It was hand-painted with characteristic pop-art motifs: puffs, stars, and vignettes in shades of blue and gray, in contrast to the interior of the seats made in red, to evoke the characteristic style of Warhol and Lichtenstein from which Koons has often drawn inspiration. On the side, the ironic “pop” inscription flashes, complete with an exclamation mark, the word that Jeff Koons often loves to pronounce in interviews.
