Pierpaolo Piccioli wins Women’s Designer of the Year at the CFDA Fashion Awards. The event that celebrates some of the most important names in the industry, was supposed to happen on 8th of June but was postponed due to the pandemic. “Far away from the spotlight, the craziness and the parties, I accept this award with gratitude for the trust that my colleagues and friends gave to me,” said the Creative Director of Valentino, Pierpaolo Piccioli.
To announce the winners and host of the night was Tom Ford, chairman of the CFDA (Council of fashion designer of America). “Since 1981, the CFDA Fashion Awards has recognized the best in fashion creativity,” said the designer. “But 2020 has been anything but typical, and we decided to forgo the in-person event, and instead announce the winners here today at the beginning of New York Fashion Week. Not having a gala allows us to focus on supporting designers during the global pandemic and redirecting our efforts towards scholarships, and brings racial equity to fashion. For this year only, we decided to focus exclusively on our designer nominees.”
The other winners were Kim Jones for International Men’s Designer of the Year, that recently was called to design the Womenswear line of Fendi, Gabriela Hearst for American Womenswear Designer of the Year and Telfar Clemens of Telfar for American Accessories Designer of the Year. The CFDA also announced the winners of the CFDA Scholar Awards 2020 that this year raised the price from 100.000 to 175.000 dollars divided in 7 scholarships of 25.000 dollar.
