“Salvatore, Shoemaker of Dreams”, the new fashion documentary dedicated to the life of Salvatore Ferragamo and directed by Luca Guadagnino, will be screened in the Out of Competition section at the 77th edition of the Venice Film Festival. The story of the shoemaker and entrepreneur that thanks to his creativity connected his career to the film industry, arrives on the big screen after 3 years of collaboration between Guadagnino and the family of Ferragamo.
A project that started in 2017 when Luca Guadagnino, inspired by the autobiography of Salvatore Ferragamo, contacted the family that opened up for him the doors of the archives of the brand and gave access to interviews, anecdotes and exclusive behind the scenes. This includes one of the latest interviews with Ferragamo’s wife, Wanda Milletti. The Foundation and the Museum Salvatore Ferragamo worked closely with the director and the screenwriter Dana Thomas and gave them their knowledge and original materials like the restored audio files of Salvatore Ferragamo’s voice that narrates some chapters of his autobiography.
“It’s great pleasure that we welcome the news that the film on the life of our das will present at the next Venice Film Festival. It’s a great honour for me and my family that someone like Luca Guadagnino took our story and transformed it into something special,” said Ferruccio Ferragamo, son of Salvatore and CEO of the company. The documentary “Salvatore, Shoemaker of Dreams” not only tells the story of Ferragamo’s career but also his personal journey, from Italy to the United States: when he was only an apprentice in Naples and owner of Hollywood Boot Shop, California, until his comeback in Italy.
