Gucci continues its expertise in the digital world and is ready to accept cryptocurrency payments in select stores in the U.S. later this month.
According to Vogue Business, the launch will begin in small numbers of select locations and will eventually cover all Nordamerican stores by this summer. The first Gucci pilot stores to test this update are Wooster Street in New York, Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles, The Shops at Crystals in Las Vegas, Miami Design District, and Phipps Plaza in Atlanta.
Those who wish to pay with one of the ten currencies, including Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Wrapped Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, and Shiba Inu, will be able to do so by clicking on a link that shows a QR code to make the payment from their cryptocurrency wallets.
While this marks a massive leap into the crypto space for a luxury fashion house, the news isn’t a big surprise with more brands tapping into the NFT, metaverse, etc. Gucci was one of the pioneers in this space, having launched an NFT collection with SUPERPLASTIC.
“Gucci is always looking to embrace new technologies when they can provide a new experience to our customers. Now that we can integrate cryptocurrencies into our payment system, it is a natural evolution for those customers who would like to have this option at their disposal,” Gucci president and CEO Marco Bizzarri said. Other fashion brands that have started accepting crypto payments recently include Off-White.
