In 2019, the Creative Director of Gucci, Alessandro Michele, debuted the first line of beauty products of the Italian brand: Gucci Beauty. With Thomas de Kluyver as the Global Makeup Artist, the brand released a multitude of innovative products characterized by a strong creative component, from mascara, to powder, from highlighter to a line of lipsticks. De Kluyver works next to Michele for each release, from inspiration for the campaigns, to the looks on the runways.
Inclusivity is really important for Michele, and constantly reflect his philosophy into Gucci. The brand chose as the face of their latest beauty campaign Ellie Goldstein, an 18-year-old model affected by the Down Syndrome, represented by Zebedee Management, a talent agency “created to increase the representation of people who have until now been excluded in the media.” Alessandro Michele explained that the message behind the L’Obscur Mascara was that each person would use it to complete their look and use make-up as a form of expression.
A concept of beauty that wants to highlight those details that society calls imperfections but that makes us who we are. At the roots of the creative vision of Gucci, there is the desire to give each person the possibility to live their lives in total freedom, to express who they are however they want. Gucci supports inclusivity, diversity, equality and being different. Concepts that are applied throughout their business in every aspect, in order to change the strict system of the fashion industry.
