That often indefinite boundary between criticism, sarcasm, idealization and creativity is what ultimately makes fashion a viral content with an unequivocal appeal. The spokesperson for this phenomenon is certainly the creative collective MSCHF, which after having caused a stir with Nike with holy water, Birkenstock made from the “waste” of a Hermès Birkin and the notorious Big Red Boots, has created an exclusive microscopic bag which to a careful eye would appear to be an On the Go Louis Vuitton.
The project was born at the invitation of Sarah Andelman, curator of the “Just Phriends” auction of the JOOPITER platform, founded by Pharrell William, who recently became creative director of LV menswear. For the occasion, the enigmatic brand MSCHF has created the Microscopic Handbag, a bag inspired by the famous tote bag of the French luxury brand which, as the name suggests, has literally microscopic dimensions. It goes without saying that MSCHF did not ask Louis Vuitton for permission for this daring project.
Slightly smaller than a grain of salt, the creation is an irreverent miniature of 657x222x700 micrometers in 3D printed resin, a provocative and at the same time avant-garde parody with which creative director Kevin Wiesner makes fun of the smaller and smaller handbags trend produced by top fashion brands and imitated in fast fashion.

“There are big handbags, normal handbags, and small handbags, but this is the final word in bag miniaturization. As a once-functional object like a handbag becomes smaller and smaller its object status becomes steadily more abstracted until it is purely a brand signifier.”, explains the collective in the post dedicated to the bag, where you can see the tiny raised Louis Vuitton logos.
The OnTheGo silhouette chosen by the artists’ collective features a simple rectangular shape completed with logo, an acid green color and a translucent design, the result of the work of a team specialized in biotechnology and a printing process known as two-factor polymerization.
So in order to appreciate the details of this micro bag, such as its transparencies and the LV monogram pattern, there is really a need to backlight it under a microscope.
The handbag will be presented in a gel case, sealed, mounted under microscope with a digital display, and will be auctioned at Just Phriends by Sarah Andelman on June 19.
