Last week, a group of 13 Adidas’ employees represented 150 of their colleagues to request that the giant of sportswear brands changes his approach to equality. In particular, the company should “invest and support the black community; support the fight for racial justice and change and demonstrate that they’re responsible and in solidarity with us and what is going on in America“. In response to this letter, Adidas announced a series of new initiatives. The first thing, the brand donated 20 million dollars to different programs that support the black community. Then the company will finance 50 university scholarships for their POC employees and both Adidas and Reebok said that they will increase the representation of black and Latinos in their work environment.
The CEO of Adidas, Kasper Rorsted explained that the protests that are currently taking place all over the world brought the brand to reflect on what they can do to fight against systematic racism. “We had to look inside of us and reflect on the systems that disadvantage the black community. We talked about how important inclusion is, and we have to do better to create a work environment where all of our employees feel safe, heard and have the same opportunities to succeed with their careers. Adidas will create a durable change and we will start now.”
Recently Adidas joined for the first time forces with his competitor Nike to say no to racism and violence.
