“It will change the way people everywhere live, work, and travel in the years to come”, announced tycoon Sir Richard Branson. This is following the successful test of Virgin Hyperloop, one of the many companies focused on creating a network of tunnels to launch capsules at a very high speed.
Recently, Virgin Hyperloop made history with its first transport of human passengers. The test took Josh Giegel and Sara Luchian, both staff members of Virgin Hyperloop, at 48 meters per second through a long tunnel under a Nevada desert.
The capsule, called “Pegaso”, was designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and Kilo Design. It was first revealed in full size in 2018, but human demos have never been conducted until now. Future commercial vehicles will be able to accommodate up to 28 people and travel at 670 miles per hour, a speed that will be able to take passengers from Los Angeles to San Francisco in less than 45 minutes.
Virgin Hyperloop was founded in 2014, its headquarters are located in Los Angeles, California. It owns about $ 400 million in investments (2019). The company recently stated that it is dreaming to reach a speed of over 1000 kilometers per hour, which is three times the speed of today’s high-speed trains and ten times the speed of a normal train.
