The crisis in the retail sector started during the lockdown affected even the British luxury department store Harrods, that just last week had to fire 14% of their staff. To not only try to avoid mass gatherings inside his store during the sale season but also to sell all the inventory accumulated during the quarantine, Harrods decided to open its first Outlet. This is a first time thing for the company, that inaugurated the new store last Friday, at Westfield, in London, followed by the opening of the new concept store H Beauty.
The new Harrods Outlet extends on two floors, with a wide and well-lighted space, easy to sanitize featuring more than 120.000 products. Every piece that can be tried on in the dressing rooms will be sanitized if not purchased and conservated for 48 hours in isolation. Only 365 clients at the time can enter the store, and they will be counted thanks to a special system. On the first floor, there are the beauty and fragrance section, as well as the accessories and footwear sections, while on the upper floor the womenswear and menswear ready-to-wear collections.

This decision made by Harrods could represent a lifeline for the future of the luxury department stores and it will bring a new clientele, as well as saving many jobs positions. Among the new projects organized by Harrods, there is The Residence, a store-villa situated in Shanghai dedicated to a personal shopping experience for a high-end clientele.
