The Venice Film Festival 2020 go ahead as scheduled. From face masks to the respect of social distancing measures and reduced parties, after many rumours, it was Luca Zaia, president of the Regione Veneto, that confirmed it. This doesn’t come as a surprise. Recently, the Director of the Venice Film Festival himself, Alberto Barbera, already declared that the selection of the movies was still proceeding as always despite everything. Finally, a piece of good news that comes after the re-scheduling of the Biennale d’Arte, that will take place in 2022, and the Biennale Architettura (22nd May 2021 – 21st November 2021).
The Venice Film Festival 2020, that celebrates 77 years, already has a date: from the September 2nd until September 12th 2020. At the Lido of Venezia, in the meantime, the Palazzo del Cinema opened again, and their works in preparation for the Festival proceed.
Security measures, social distancing and face masks: these are the keywords for this year edition. There will be video-conferences and online premieres for the journalists – especially foreigners – that will not be able to attend the Festival. The red carpet formula will change to avoid any gatherings (certainly it will not be possible for the public to wait for their favourite celebrities behind the barriers), and the film screenings will be available for a reduced number of people, to respect the social distancing rules. Soon the ticket sales will be available.
