As revealed by Hypebeast, Diego Armando Maradona ‘s Porsche Carrera 911 will be auctioned. The car is one of the rare Porsche Carrera models of this type. There are only 1200 examples worldwide, and it was only manufactured for two years. The super car will be sold at Les Grandes Marques du Monde Paris in auction sessions organized from 3 to 10 March.
“We are delighted to present the quintessential Porsche of the 90s with its unique and colorful signature styling. We are convinced it will appeal to many passionate football collectors around the world, “said Paul Darvill, Bonhams’ European Auctions Manager.
Maradona had bought Porsche during his only season at Sevilla (1992-1993), Diego’s last season in Europe. As Bonhams jokes nicely, the Porsche served to prove how in the car it was the champion’s right foot to dominate, leaving the left only to the ball. This is in fact, the famous vehicle in which the police stopped Maradona for having passed with the red light and driven at 180km/h in the city center. The passion for cars led El Peluda to buy many, but he also had the opportunity to drive this 911 a lot. The vehicle marks 120,000 kilometers on the speedometer but remains in excellent condition.
The engine is a 250 hp 3.6-liter Carrera 2 and reaches a top speed of 260 km/h. The car is 130 kg lighter than the standard Carrera 2, thanks to modifications made over the years. A seam welded frame, an aluminum hood, thinner glass for the side and rear windows, and a set of magnesium Cup wheels. The final weight of the machine is 1,227 kg.
The value is estimated between 180 and 200 thousand dollars. After Maradona’s departure from Seville, the car was then sold in June 1993 to a Spanish privateer who kept it for 20 years before passing it on to several French collectors. The current seller has owned it since 2016.
