This year the union between the fashion industry and the world of sport has been felt loud and clear. The most striking confirmation of this closeness was undoubtedly the news regarding LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton which will be a premium partner of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The world’s largest luxury brand is no stranger to partnerships with sports realities, having produced trophy cases for partners including the NBA, America’s Cup, FIFA World Cup and Rugby World Cup.

Following the announcement of LVMH’s role in the upcoming Olympics, Louis Vuitton said on Monday it had engaged French swimmer Léon Marchand as its latest brand ambassador.

Fresh from the World Aquatics Championships in Japan, where he broke Michael Phelps’ latest individual world record, the young French swimmer joins the prestigious list of ambassadors that Vuitton is carefully “recruiting” from the world of sport. Examples are tennis players Carlos Alcaraz and Naomi Osaka; skier Eileen Gu and footballer Sam Li Sirong.

“Driven by the same spirit of perseverance and excellence held dear to Louis Vuitton, Léon Marchand continues to set the bar ever higher within his discipline,” the brand said in a statement.

“At only 21 years old, the Olympic swimmer who first participated in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 has shown unprecedented achievement and is one of the best chances of victory and medals for the French team in several events”.

Therefore, given the swimming champion’s strong potential and string of winning performances, Vuitton did not miss the opportunity to add him to the impressive roster of faces who have agreed to collaborate with the brand.

Ahead of the Olympic Games, Marchand was named last week as the first athlete to be sponsored by LVMH, the parent company of Vuitton, Dior and other big-name brands.

But this is only the beginning. The company plans to partner with at least four or five other athletes who will benefit from financial support and privileged relationships with the fashion houses belonging to the group.

Furthermore, it has already been announced through the recent statements by Antoine Arnault, head of communication, image and the environment of LVMH, that many of the brands will have a special role during the Games.

Not only the jeweler Chaumet will design the medals but also the brands Vuitton, Dior, Berluti, Sephora and the wines and spirits division of Moët Hennessy  will take part in the event in some way.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for July 26, 2024 and in this long period of time that separates us from the pre-established date, LVMH will gradually reveal more details about its Olympic partnerships.
