The topic is back in the news following the case of the Vestiaire Collective, which has just broken its sales record thanks to the purchase by a user of a Hermès bag for 158 thousand euros. The previous record always belonged to a bag, specifically a Birkin sold for 112 thousand euros. In this case it was an extremely rare model, of which were produced, in 2019, only 50 examples for VIP customers of the maison, all characterized by a clochette (the leather bag that accompanies the bags of the brand) unique in its kind, orange shaped shopping bag. The new record belongs instead to one, equally rare, Birkin Faubourg. If once our greatest desire was to enter the store and buy a new bag signed and then proceed with the “unboxing” on instagram, today what everyone wants, is a Chanel 2.55 or a Hermès Kelly or a Gucci Jackie 1961 belonging to an earlier era. The impression is in fact that in the first months of this year the research of (certain) items and especially vintage accessories have increased dramatically compared to the same period of 2021 and the latest surveys conducted by Vestiaire Collective prove it. And judging by the auctioned prices, it’s really worth it to get one.
